To Dick Daly's Family: Cousin Kay, Dick's sister, phoned me Teusday to tell of Cousin Dick's passing.I was sorry to hear that. Kay yesterday recounted to me a story from Dick's youth, of Ahmic Lake, and an especially large pickerel. It had something to do with the fish getting off the hook and ending up in shallow water I think. Quick thinking Dick jumped in and scooped up the fish with his sweater. It sounded like a feat. Dick and my my Dad, Jim Beatty, of course were pals in their youth, and adulthood. I know my Dad had fond memories of summers at Ahmic Lake hanging out with his cousins. In adulthood, Dad enjoyed meeting Dick for lunch in downtown Toronto fairly regularly, every month or two. I recall Cousin Dick as a being a very likable gentlemen. I valued the occasional family gatherings we'd have. Like my Dad, I loved visiting Dick, Genevieve, Patrick and Michelle at beautiful Ahmic Lake in the summer! It was different experience in many ways from our own family cottage and lake, a different environment. Dick's longevity is something we can all hope to emulate. 94 years is quite an attainment! Kay has just recently moved from her house into an assisted living facility in Vancouver. She sounds pretty happy with her new digs, and seems in good spirits. My impression is she's doing great. My condolences to all of Dick's family. -Bob Beatty (Vancouver)
