Obituary of Maxwell Dowsett
Maxwell Jane Alexandra Dowsett (nee Stewart)
August 27, 1929 - November 24, 2014
Our loving mother and grandmother Maxie Dowsett (nee Stewart) died peacefully on Monday. In her final years, Maxie rejoiced in her many blessings, focusing on her long marriage to John Dowsett, the love of her
life, and her three cherished children: Ann Dowsett Johnston, Cate Dewey (Randy Dewey) and John Dowsett. Born to Walter and Jane Stewart, Maxie spent more than eighty summers on the shores of Georgian Bay at her beloved Chez Nous, welcoming five much-loved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren to her fold: John, Christopher and Peter Dewey (Jude and Winston); Nicholas Johnston; and Madeline Dowsett. A graduate of Branksome Hall, Maxie was a wonderful storyteller who delighted in others' company And given her many adventures with John, there were terrific stories to tell. Together, they lived in South Africa, Botswana, Northern Ontario, Toronto and Aurora. A beloved member of the Stewart and Dowsett clans,
she is survived by her brother Walt (Ruth), her sister Sally (Peter Douglas), her brother-in-law Robert Dowsett (Anne Folger) and her sister-in-law Jane Dowsett; pre-deceased by her husband John, by her sister
Wendy and her brother-in-law Bill. She will be remembered with love on Cawaja Beach and beyond, for her magnificent smile, her love of people and her deep affection for her beloved ''four legs'', Bailey (recipient of
much ice cream). The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A. W. MILES-NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Ave., south of Davisville Ave., on Friday, December 5, from 4:00 to 8:00. A memorial service will be held at the same location at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 6. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children of Bukati (www.childrenofbukati.com), c/ o Cate Dewey, 5460 6th Line, RR 1, Rockwood, ON. NOB 2K0.
