I was saddened to hear just today of Al's passing. I served on several boards with Al over the years. Rarely have I met someone more dedicated to making things better for everyone in his community than Al. His level of commitment and his willingness to "roll up his sleeves" and pitch in was remarkable. What's more, Al always had a smile and a kind word ready for anyone he met. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Al Jr., Peter, and Robin: My sincerest condolences. Your Dad was a great guy, and I am a better person for having known him. My thoughts are with Barb as well. I'll miss Al. I particularly enjoyed all of his pearls of wisdom and sage advice conveyed to me through many drop-in visits at his condo, emails, and phone calls over the years. His opinions and experiences were always unique! I enjoyed my several trips to the cottage as well-what a great place. One trip, in particular, stands out: A winter trip one February, snowmobiling over the frozen lake with cousin Mark to the annual Georgian Bay winter party. He loved those parties. May his spirit live on. All the best in this trying time.

I was so sorry to hear of Al's passing. He hired me at Daily Commercial News in 1980 and he was a wonderful boss and mentor. Always encouraging and open to new ideas. He had a great sense of humour and love for life. I feel so blessed to have known him. My heartfelt sympathies to your family.

I was born and raised in Red Lake, Ontario, where Alan's parents lived in the 1930s and where his father was a mine manager until his untimely death. Over the course of many years spent researching the pioneers of the Red Lake area, I came into contact with both Larry and Alan, and greatly enjoyed learning of some of their memories. Larry put some of those to paper but died before we could progress any further. I am sincerely sorry to learn of your heartbreaking loss. What a stellar tribute you have written, and the photograph is magnificent. Wishing you much strength over the coming days, months, and years.

Mrs. Heisey, it was sad to hear of Mr. Heisey's death. I have fond memories of the two of you at various parties at Teddington Park. Our visit to your cottage where Mr. Heisey convinced my dad that it would be ok for me to sleep alone in your boat. One of the nicest things he could have done for me. Unfortunately that evening was cut short as we had to rush to Boston as mom's father had died. Not sure how well I would have slept anyway wearing a life jacket. When I was an adult, Mr. Heisey would constantly visit me at Black and McDonald downtown with reams of the Daily Commercial News tucked under his arm. Our VP called him my personal paper boy. I was mostly around him as a child, however I do remember his excitement in conversation and how much both my parents loved it when you two came over. I am sure his family and friends will miss him.
