Professor Streeter told a joke in my Seneca English class once that he was on an elevator with a colleague somewhere and a lot of people got on. His friend said, "This elevator only goes sideways" and everyone got off! I also appreciate him because he encouraged me to find a faster TTC route (up Don Mills Road) to Newnham campus so I wouldn't be late for his class! I ran into him twice near St. Basil's which is my church, too. I and everyone who has met him will miss him. My condolences to his family and colleagues.

We have only know Jim for a few years but he was always a joy to be with. We loved his zest for life, his kindness and his many funny stories. We last saw him in August and he showed such good spirit and was still just as sociable as ever in spite of his disease. We will miss him. God Bless you Jim. Pixie and Richard Wilder

I met Jim in 1966 when he was teaching at St. Jerome's College in Waterloo. Then I was a mixed up teen, inarticulate, without any idea of what to do next after making a complete hash of my first year at university. (I had dropped twice in first year!). I took his course on the insistent advice of my sister who was also a Streeter fan. His love of the word and his enthusiasm for all things including Salinger's Glass family made for a sea change in my attitude and, consequently, my life. I've often recalled him and that class with affection. Lovely guy, may he rest I peace.

In the mid eiighties, Jim was very helpful in reaching out to neighbouring school boards to build bridges to college for secondary students. He helped to clarify the skills needed for students to succeed in college programs. His genuine and collaborative spirit contributed to the strong ties which now exist between school boards and colleges.
Thanks, Jim.

Hello" James Henry"
Could it be that your own keen desire to learn helped make you such a wonderful teacher? Could it be that the fulfillment you experienced in your own growth was reflected in your encouragement of and joy in the growth of others?
It will be that, although you have left this world, we will continue to grow by your inspiration.
Thankyou for 50 years of inspiration in faith and courage, in love and friendship, in knowledge of the arts. Thankyou for much laughter in sunshine and a little laughter as well as much encouragement in rain.
Your family sends love to you in your new home of eternal peace and joy.

Jim, there are so many memories I have of you over the past 40 or so years. I will never forget how you loved parties, how you loved jokes, how you loved your neighbourhood and your home and of course, the love you had for family and friends. Wonderful memories. But most poignant of all, I will never ever forget the courage you showed in fighting this most terrible disease, ALS. We've missed your voice these past few months, now we will simply just miss seeing you. You are in good hands now, dear friend; your fear and struggles are over.
