Wherever you are Aunt Joan, your youngest nephew will always remember you! For my entire life, you were there for me -- when I was playing in the sand box, scoring a goal in hockey, seriously sick in the hospital, and all the other times too numerous to mention here, but I know you know them!
Thank you for all the endless memories! Your sisters and all of us miss you dearly. I love you lots, and I really hope you're with Nana and Bob now.

I was sadden to hear about Joan's passing. I was fortunate to have seen her before she moved to Toronto. Joan was one of the first physios I worked with on the ortho floor. She taught me so much about hard work and dedication to our patients but most of all she taught me about kindness and compassion. I will always think of her fondly.

I would like to send my condolences to Joan's family.I worked as a physiotherapist at Henderson Hospital and have many happy memories of Joan, from hearing of her world travels to her pottery experiences. She was always pleasant.I don't remember ever seeing her angry or upset with anyone or anything. She worked very hard....staying late most evenings to finish her heavy caseload on Ward 293.I can still see her walking down the ramp in the morning and going in to the office to pick up her mail.I'm thinking of you,Joan.

I want to convey my deepest sympathy to Joan's family in the loss of their beloved family member. I worked with Joan in the Physiotherapy Department at the Henderson and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her. She worked tirelessly on Ward 293 and I know she made such a difference to so many patients. Joan was such a unique individual, I have so many wonderful memories of her, her pottery, her wonderful dessert with the whipped cream and the chocolate cookies (so good), her famous hat, hearing of all of her world travels, the cottage visits and most importantly the loving way she spoke about her family. Joan was one of a kind! I will be thinking of all of you tomorrow and wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to each of you.

As I worked in maternity at the Henderson, I didn't see Joan often with our patients but I did witness her in action with my teenage son who required physio after knee surgery with good results. I would often meet Joan at lunch or trudging through the tunnel to the "other side" and she always had a smile and a kind word. We also shared time curling at the Dundas Granite. She was one of the last people using a corn broom - you always knew who was sweeping. She will be missed.

I first met Joan in 1968 when I started working at the Henderson Hospital on ward 293 as a RN. Joan was the "physio" for that ward. We worked together & socialized from then on.Joan was a wonderful person always willing to help not only her patients but the staff. After her retirement we continued to see each other 1 to 3 times a year. Joan was always travelling or going to the cottage with her family. She spoke with love and very highly of you, her family. I still think of Joan often and will miss her dearly. My husband Willie (who also knew Joan both as her patient & friend) offer our condolences to you in the loss of this great woman Joyce Bethea (from Hamilton)

I am very sorry to hear about Joan. We worked together at the Henderson Hospital and few of us can say they worked as hard as Joan. She was very proud of her nieces and nephews, speaking often of their accomplishments. Joan got me interested in pottery, I will treasure the pieces she gave me. Although she worked too hard Joan never missed a work "social", always came prepared with food tastefully presented (on a lovely pottery dish) and two Molson Canadian beers ! I raise my glass to you Joan.

Joan will be missed but well and fondly remembered. She was a wonderful person and colleague and an absolute powerhouse for our patients at the Henderson and was one of THE key individuals who enabled the successful building of what is today one of the largest arthroplasty programs in Canada. She made a huge difference to so many people's lives.

I was saddened to read in the newspaper today of Joan's passing. Joan and I had many wonderful walks together along the Hamilton escarpment. We discussed many topics on our walks and Joan told me all about her loving family. I felt like I knew you all even though I had never met you! Joan was always so agreeable to go for a walk whenever I called her. She was a cheerful person who was interested in the well-being of others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Although I never was able to visit her in her retirement home, I thought of her often. Even this past week I was thinking of her on one of my walks because I knew her birthday was in March. My sincere sympathy is extended to all of Joan's family and I'll be thinking of you especially on Tuesday during her funeral service. With loving thoughts, Mary Jane Farrar

To Joan's family; I read the notice of Joan's passing in this morning's Hamilton Spectator, and a thousand memories came flooding back. I'm also a Physiotherapist, and worked with Joan at the Henderson (now Juravinski) Hospital for about 10 years. I remember Joan as a kind, funny and generous woman, and a dedicated therapist. I used to drop my children at the hospital's Day Care Centre, adjacent to the hospital, and would meet Joan on her way into work along Mountain Brow Boulevard almost every morning. Oh, that outrageous, floppy brown hat! I still cherish, and use often, the little ceramic pitcher Joan gave me as a fare well gift when I left the Henderson. The old gang (current and former staff of Henderson Physio Dept) had a reunion last autumn, and Joan was spoken of and remembered with great fondness. There are people who always make me smile when I think of them-- Joan is certainly in that group.
