Obituary of George Davis MD

Dr. George Edwin Donald Davis M.D., F.R.C.P. ( C ) R.C.A.F. July 15, 1924 - October 18, 2014. Don passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Toronto. In 1950 he graduated in Medicine at the University of Toronto. Don enlisted with the R.C.A.F. receiving his officer appointment in 1944, and served with the R.C.A.F. as a Pilot Officer with the 424 Fighter Squadron (Auxiliary) Medical List Medical Officer Branch from October, 1950 to September, 1951. General and Industrial practice, Hamilton General Hospital and Medical Officer Reserve Squadron R.C.A.F. He was a specialist in Psychiatry, and was active staff at Toronto Western Hospital from 1956 when the first psychiatric unit in a general hospital was opened in the Toronto area. Beloved husband of 62 years of Dr. Ruth Montgomery and proud father of Sharon (David Tanner), Taylore, Margaret (David Phillips), John (Kyoko Iwasa) and Sheila (Steve Lawlor). Loving grandfather of Stephanie, Sarah and James Tanner, Elysia Yardley, Caroline Phillips and Hanae, Matthew, Elena, Lloyd and Jack Davis. The family would like to extend deepest thanks to Sprint House Calls for Seniors, the Spectrum Health Care Nurses and our personal support workers. Don was a passionate advocate for his patients for over 60 years. His medical practice brought him great fulfillment. Lifelong interests included aviation (private pilot), boating, skiing, curling, and reforestation of century farm. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome contributions in his name to Sprint House Calls for Seniors, 140 Merton Street, 2nd Floor, Toronto M4S 1A1, or Soldiers' Tower at the University of Toronto.
