Obituary of Henry Clifford Hatch
Hatch, Henry Clifford (Cliff)
Died peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in his 73rd year. Cliff was a devoted and beloved husband for 47 years of Sylvie Helene Braastad, whom he adored. A loving father and GrandB, his wise counsel will be greatly missed at Sunday dinners by his children Diane (Chris Naudie), Aurelie (Doug Bryce) and Clifford (Amanda De Souza), as well as by his grandchildren Charlotte and Harrison Naudie, Luke and Natalia Hatch and Violet, Sebastien and Delphine Bryce. He is survived by his siblings Gail (Doug Todgham), Mary (Roger Maus) and Rick (Mar Bergstrom), to whom he was a dear brother.
Born and raised in Windsor Ontario, Cliff attended Neuchatel Junior College and graduated from McGill University and Harvard Business School. A well-respected businessman, he served in senior executive positions at Corby Distilleries, Hiram Walker Gooderham & Worts Ltd. and Allied Lyons PLC, as well as an active board member of Speedy Muffler, the McMichael Gallery, Transat AT and Consolidated HCI, among others.
He had a long history of volunteerism, for the United Way of Windsor, the Basilian Fathers of Toronto, and on behalf of youth at risk. An avid outdoorsman and ornithologist, he sailed, skied, hiked and fished the world over and canoed most of the major rivers in Canada. A loyal friend and true gentleman, Cliff also enjoyed a wide circle of friends, maintaining and cultivating relationships over decades. His intellect, dry wit, and love of fine wine and food (including a lifelong membership in the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin), made him an excellent mealtime companion, and he will be sorely missed by many.
Profound thanks to Cliff's constant companion, Willie Soto for his unfailing and devoted care over the last 3 years, as well as to the staff at both CAMH and the Toronto Western Hospital.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 26th at 10:30 a.m. in OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CHURCH, 78 Clifton Road, Toronto.
