Obituary of Elizabeth Missen
MISSEN, Elizabeth Barbara (Bobbie)
(nee Ward)
Peacefully, on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the age of 85. Predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald and, all too recently, dear daughter Kathryn Missen. Cherished mother of Nancy Beverly, Brenda Missen and Lynne Missen Jolly and mother-in-law of Bill Beverly and Brad Jolly. Much loved grandma of Harriet Clunie, Meaghan and Sarah Beverly, Julia and Gavin Jolly, and Jennifer Scanlan and husband Tom. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on November 3, 1928, Bobbie grew up in Hamilton and received her B.Sc. from McMaster University in 1950. Married in 1951, Bobbie and Ron spent three years in Cambridge, England, then moved to Toronto, where they raised their four daughters. An active member of the University Women's Club since the 1960s, Bobbie made many close friends and was instrumental in starting up the Leaside-East York branch Theology Group. Bobbie was a dedicated volunteer. She worked with children with disabilities at Centennial Nursery School, taught English as a Second Language, and, for more than 25 years at the Aphasia Institute, helped people who have had a stroke. She loved to travel and felt fortunate to have seen so many parts of the world, particularly by cruise ship. She will be missed by so many dear friends and family members. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18 at THE DONWAY COVENANT UNITED CHURCH, 230 The Donway West, Toronto. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Bobbie's wishes were that donations be made to the Aphasia Institute, 73 Scarsdale Rd, Toronto M3B 2R2.
