Condolences. I was speaking with my sister-in-law about my time in the 60’s when I attended Dorothy Fleming’s School near Casa Loma. I was a quiet girl and she was so kind and encouraging. It was an important and special time of my life that was appreciated even more as I got older. I’m 73 now, living in Florida still thinking of her. I’m so sorry she is gone. Yet, I thank you for the fond memories that surfaced this afternoon. Such memories! / Elizabeth Berry

Alice Walker wrote than if there is only one person who sees and acknowledges a child from a turbulent family, then that child’s feelings are affirmed and she knows she exists. As one of nine children in an alcoholic family, Dorothy was that special person to me. I wrote about our story in my memoir and still today Dorothy is alive in me, one of my forever mothers, as is Gloria Steinem and Gloria Allred.
Thank you forever, Dorothy!

I remember Dorothy very well from my childhood and, fortunately, had seen her a few times over the past recent years. I did some modelling as a child. She 'played' my mom many times. I have a photo of a bridal fashion show at Eaton Auditorium. Dorothy was the bride(of course)with her entourage - I was a flower girl. She was always very kind and sweet. I send my condolences.

I was very sorry to read about the death of Miss Fleming. I remember her well. I worked at her salon in the mid sixties, as a shampoo girl. She was always so kind and treated people nicely. Her son Paul managed the shop and I remember the stylists were June, George and Ben. My condolences to her family. Susie

In the late 40's Dorothy's accountant called to ask me if I would be interested in managing the office of a brand new modeling agency. It seemed like an appealing extreme change of scene so an appointment was arranged at 16 Shorncliffe Rd (I think). When I arrived there where many tall beautiful models milling about, who all paled to the charming, beautiful Dorothy Fleming. I felt like orphan annie, but was hired on the spot. Dorothy managed the school in the evenings and I was always at the office by 9:00 am, so I didn't see much of that end of the business. I remember Irene Spence-Cowieson well. She taught runway walking. She was a lovely talented girl, who had been in the armyshow during the war. I knew Dorothys' parents very well as I saw them everyday. They were a lovely family and so proud of Dorothy and Paul. Dorothy was a night person and would have great fun after class - sometimes at the club Norman. Sometimes I would need to talk to her early in the morning. Her brain never stopped and she was just as beautiful making to do lists - from her bed - sans makeup. A real beauty is beautiful any time of the day or night. Sometimes before the sun was over the yardarm, she would invite me "Darling would you like a Martini?" I would often answer in the affirmative. Where else could you enjoy the dryest Martini in town! It didn't take long before I knew the telephone numbers of all the models working in Toronto. It was fun and sometimes harrowing. An advertising agency wanted a dog for a GM commercial. My husband borrowed a neighbors huge galloping, white pup "Duke". Pete was the dedicated dog trainer. He worked for hours mostly saying "DOWN DUKE" I think there was a strike and that the commercial was never shown. It was fun for a Professional Engineer. When Dorothy went to Europe she was like the girl from Ipenema -and when she passes the males would say aaahhh! Some would follow her back across the Ocean - he could be a Playboy, A famous Boxer or from any walk of life - great drama. For some reason I had to take my son to work with me one day. Once was enough. Scott was 5. Dorothy after seeing the job had done to his hair with cuticle scissors & looked like a dog with mange, with his face painted with makeup from the makeup room - suggested he go to the yard and cut the grass. Unfortuneatly the hose was spread out on the grass and he cut it to shreads. By then I was under the desk with the phone, in shame and Dorothy never bated a beautiful eye. When I was remarried in 1954, Dorothy and the Models gave us a beautiful set of Minton "Ancestral" Bone China. which I still use to this day after 54 years. Everytime I set the table with them I think of the pretty, generous, smart, loyal friend, whom I was so priviledged and honoured to know. Beauty and Brains - a woman one could never forget. Dear Paul and Ana Maria We are saddened to hear of your mother's death. She was much akin to the Tiffany diamonds that she wears in the photo ... she too was a sparkling gem. She adored her darling Paul. And we know that you loved her dearly. You will be so very lonely and we are sorry for your pain. Most sincerely, Gus and Ruth

I worked at the Eaton Auditorium for 20 years and enjoyed Dorthy's sense of humor. She would sit with us in the office, her perfume was a joy. I also took her self improvement course, I am now 80 years old and trying to grow old gracefully. My condolences to the family. Sincerely, June Giggey (nee Forster)

Although it was 45 years ago, I still fondly remember the wonderful modelling experience I had with Dorothy Fleming. What I learned from her at 18 has prominently stayed with me all these years along with the elegance and charm she so gracefully emitted. My sincerest condolences. Marilyn Froats (nee Smith)

I was a student of Dorothy's in 1961 & went on to model & do television commercials for over 35 years in & around the Toronto area - I remember her classes as if they were yesterday - she was a great lady. My husband & I moved out of Toronto in 2003 & moved to the country, about 30 minutes north of Lindsay in Fenelon Falls - would love to talk to her son Paul & go down memory lane. Sincerely, Jill Holmes(Best)705-887-5656
