Obituary of Sheila McGillivray

McGILLIVRAY, Sheila Playfair Peacefully, at her residence in The Balmoral Club, on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the age of 106 years. Predeceased by her parents Charles Ernest Lee and Edith Margaret Playfair, and her husband of fifty-six years, the Honorable George Argo McGillivray. She will be greatly missed by her children Lee Till (Ron), Don (Helen), Lyn Webster (John) and Ian (Mary), eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest passions were her extended family, her many, many friends, her bridge at the Badminton and Racquet Club and golf at the Toronto Hunt Club (where she was known for her highly unorthodox but amazingly effective golf swing) and her times at Clovendale farm in Glenville. She was one of the original campers at Camp Tanamakoon and inspired in her family a great love of the out of doors. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, her great determination and for her remarkable sense of humour right to the end. The family would like to thank the Balmoral Staff and the wonderful caregivers of Integracare for the love and kindness shown to our mother. A service of remembrance will be held at ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 73 Simcoe Street, corner of King Street and Simcoe, Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception for all in the Church Hall. Friends who desire to remember Sheila, may wish to support the North York Hospital Foundation, for the Honourable George and Sheila McGillivray Endowment Fund.
