Ota Browne

Obituary of Ota Browne

OTA BROWNE June 13,1912 - May 15, 2008 Always remembered and loved, it is with deep sadness that we announce Ota's passing, one month shy of his 96th year. He is survived by his wife Amy, children Tara, Richard & Peter, and his many grandchildren. Ota was born in Prague, and during World War II, served as a Captain in the Czech free forces based in England, seeing action throughout Europe. In 1949 he moved to Montreal and to Toronto in 1971. Ota founded O. Browne & Co. Ltd. in 1949, which continues today. After retiring in 1990, he was active in many endeavors until recently. Ota was an amazing, energetic individual who had a great passion for living. His view to life was to consider it with open mind, dry humour, and enthusiasm, which touched many people. He loved classical music, his beloved pipes and his extensive travels to far reaching parts of the world. Ota downhill skied until the age of 91; rode horses; and was avid about tennis and golf until his passing. Visitation will be held at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, May 21st.
