Obituary of Juhan Runk

RUNK, Juhan November 18, 1913 - May 6, 2014 Juhan passed away at the incredible age of 100 at Ehatare Nursing Home fully aware of the world around him. He will be remembered by us as being an incredibly dignified man who devoted his life to his wife, Alma (life-long partner of 78 years) and his children, Leili (David), Jaan (deceased), Ene (Rein) and Thomas (Sandra). Born in Haapsalu, Estonia, he made the courageous decision to escape from Soviet occupied Estonia to travel to a country where he and his family could live freely. After 6 years in Sweden, he moved his family to Canada and had become one of many thousands of immigrants who were eternally grateful for their newfound freedom. Family members learned quickly to refrain from complaining about anything for fear of a swift rebuke from him reminding them of their good fortune living in Canada. He leaves behind 6 loving grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who will remember him as a consummate jokester and purveyor of snack foods. Visitation will take place from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10th at Newbigging Funeral Home, 733 Mount Pleasant Rd., Toronto (one block south of Eglinton Ave.). Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to immediately follow. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. As a fond farewell to you, we say, "Take it easy, but take it".
