As John's English cousin, I was delighted that Alan and I could spend time with the Orrs in Ontario last September. He and Deanne made the trip from Toronto to meet up with us and my memories of spending some very happy time together over a few days are now particularly precious. Our thoughts are of him and with his beloved wife Deanne. Rosie West.

Dear Deanne: We remember John in the many ways you so lovingly and accurately described him in his obituary notice. In my business dealings with John, he was indeed a gentleman, a fair and honest man, quick to tease and laugh. Later in life it was a delight to be your winter neighbours in Naples, Florida and to introduce you to our circle of publishing friends there. That exquisite sense of humour and hearty laugh was a delightful addition to our newsletter publisher cocktail-and-dinner outings on the Gulf. We shall miss him.

I remember John as a witty, generous and incisive business person. I'm glad our paths crossed (at the physiotherapist) in the last year of his life. Deanne, you were a tower of strength in support of him. Condolences to the family.

That ready smile could not have been missed by anyone who knew John. He brought happiness to everyone with such uplifting remarks and empathy. A very bright light. My condolences to Deanne from an old neighbour.

How very sad I am of hearing of John's passing. Deanne, John had a life force in him that lit up a room. I will always remember his sparkle and his genuine interest in all who he came into contact with. He was a bright light. My sincere condolences to all who love him.

John was a fine, honest and decent man who was highly regarded at Maclean Hunter and The Financial Post. He was a skilled publisher, hiring and and mentoring so many in Canadian business publishing. He was elegant and always had a twinkle in his eye.
