Obituary of Ruth Fukushima

FUKUSHIMA, Ruth Yoshiko Passed away peacefully at her home in the Momiji Centre on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the age 95. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family and many friends made over a long, well lived life. Eldest daughter of Zennojyo and Soye Hirota, she was the beloved wife of the late Harry Fukushima, dear elder sister to Kimi and the late Miyo; loving "Auntie" to her sisters' children Jamie, Joy, Ken, Carolyn, Ron, Elaine and their families; and, to all her Fukushima nieces, nephews, their partners and children in Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay and Vancouver. She was a skilled dressmaker, artist, volunteer and an instructor for many years at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. In her later years, she enjoyed being part of the community at the Momiji Centre and the family is especially grateful to Elisa Perdido for her compassionate care, companionship and love that she gave Ruth for the last 5 years. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Murray E. Newbigging Funeral Home Chapel, 733 Mount Pleasant Road, followed by burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of Koden, donations in her memory to either the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre or the Momiji Health Care Society in Toronto, would be sincerely appreciated by her family.
