Obituary of Maria Da Graca Da Silva

GRACE SILVA Born: Maria Da Graca Coutinho Da Silva March 5, 1933 - February 8, 2013 "If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain. If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain, or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain." -Emily Dickinson And that is how Grace loved and lived her life, with an always ready and radiant smile. She is resting in peace, united, once again, with her beloved husband Manuel. She will be missed by her dearest daughter Manuela, dearest granddaughter Stephanie, son-in-law John and her many relatives and friends. To her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews she extended wishes for all to enjoy as good a life as she had, filled with love, laughter and respect. Arriving in Toronto in 1992 Grace dedicated much of her time to volunteering in the community with both St. Christopher House and St. Stephen's Community House, where she developed a love for theatre and touched the lives of many. Her participation in the group of Portuguese Women 55+ was a source of joy. Hers was a rich, well adjusted and very happy life. To all her many friends her last words were of gratitude for the beautiful and fun memories. A very special thank you to those who remained close to her all throughout. To her health care team, Dr. M. Howe and RN Tatiana, and to all involved in her personal care, especially Tsering, the family wishes to express their profound and most heartfelt appreciation for the compassion and excellence in care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace Silva's name may be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital, 416-586-8203 ex. 3936 or at www.tlcpc.org. A Memorial Service will be held in Toronto at the Murray E. Newbigging Funeral Home, 733 Mt. Pleasant Road, Toronto, ON, M4S 2N4 on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Grace's life will take place, in Portugal, at a later date.
