Anna Smyth

Obituary of Anna Smyth

ANNA AMY SMYTH June 29, 1975 - February 18, 2012 Anna entered Princess Margaret Hospital in August, 2011 to begin a six-month all-out marathon against a new strain of leukaemia cell. Last week, with the finish line of remission in clear view, Anna fell from a sudden overwhelming infection. The treatment of her first leukaemia at age 15 had ended with a long, happy and complete remission of 18 years' duration. At the age of 20, on the Feast of St. Michael in 1995, Anna entered into the rich and creative life of Camphill Communities Ontario near Angus, where she learned and loved weaving and painting, enjoying the beauty of outdoor life and rural surroundings with her many companions and co-workers. Named at her baptism for the prophetess Anna, who welcomed and blessed the Infant Jesus, our own Anna would live to share the joy of her life and faith, touching and changing the lives of those who came to know her. Her smile brightened even the saddest of days. Her family can find no words to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Princess Margaret Hospital for their exceptional loving care of Anna over these six months. As well, they thank the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital for the excellence of urgent care during her last days. Anna is missed by her companions and co-workers at Camphill. She leaves a deeply loving family: her brothers Jeremy (Rita) of Chemainus and Benjamin of Brooklyn, her stepsister Gabrielle McIntire of Kingston, and her stepbrother Eliot McIntire (Celine) of Victoria. She is also survived by her mother Kathleen Smyth, her stepmother Carolyn McIntire Smyth and her dad, Dr. Harley Smyth. "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2 The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24. Funeral Mass will be held in the CHURCH OF ST. MARY MAGDALENE, 477 Manning Avenue, Toronto M6G 2V8, on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. A private interment of cremated remains will take place at Amherst Island, Ontario.
