Whenever I think of Susan, I think of laughter. We laughed all the time. Susan was a member of our family group over several summers in Highgate Springs, Vt. She was our honorary cousin. In our dining room, we played Jeopardy, Risk, World Diplomacy, Hearts and other games every night. There were some smart people around the table but Susan won more often than most, and she was a very gracious winner (unlike some of the "gloaters" in the group). We made student films, mock commercials (long before SNL) played "Good Taste, Bad Taste" in the kitchen, burned grilled cheese sandwiches while Susan drank tea and added her unique wit to our conversations. We often walked her home (3 doors away) at 4 a.m. with a flashlight. In later years, when Andrew joined us, he fit right in to our happy group. Dear Susan we (Chris,Vickie, John, Paul, Janet and I) will all miss you. Every single memory I have of you is great - completely positive.

To Susan's Family: It had been forty years since I last saw Susan, at our Sacred Heart high school reunion last October 2011. True to my memory of her, Susan had remained the unassuming, straightforward, honest, generous soul met all these years ago. We spoke at dinner of family and our shared fascination for knowledge and the life sciences. She loved what she did and did it well - may she rest in peace and may her memory continue to bring peace and joy. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dear Andy, Miranda and Maddy, My deepest sympathy to the entire family. Susan has a very special place in my heart. When I started in the Greenblatt lab, she took me under her wing and taught me all the ropes of the lab and science. She quickly became an important mentor in my early scientific career. For this I will never forget her! I had the pleasure of working with her again several years later in the Bentley lab and saw her in action, once again mentoring and teaching the junior members of the lab. She truly cared for all her colleagues and for science. She certainly will be missed! My Condolences, Steve Mason Wallingford, CT

I was deeply sorry to hear of Susan's passing. She was an immensely positive person with whom I was able to share laughs, even under difficult pressure. I greatly respected her knowledge and ability to communicate and will regret not being able to pass my respects in person. I only wish I had gotten more chance to know her. She will be missed.

I am so deeply sorry to hear of the loss of our beloved Susan. She was such a bright flame of love, wit, brilliance and spirit. She was one of my closest friends in high school and we laughed and tried to make sense of the world together. Last October, beaming with happiness, I saw her again and she told me how full of joy her life was and I was so very glad to see she had found all that she had sought. I, having re-discovered my friend, feel tremendous loss, and can only imagine what you are all going through. You have my prayers and condolences- and my gratitude for sharing our wonderful Susan. I am sorry I cannot be there with you all. I am certainly with you in spirit and will light a candle for her today.

Andy and family: We are so sorry for your loss and our thoughts are with you and your daughters at this very sad time. Susan had the rare gift of making everyone like her instantly, and she will be missed. I was 20 when my own father died unexpectedly of a heart attack, and while it is hard to imagine now, there does come a time when all you remember is the love.

Dear Andy, Miranda, and Madeleine, I was very much saddened to hear about your sudden and terrible loss. I know that Susan will be missed by everyone who knew her in the Greenblatt lab of some 20-25 years ago. Susan cared about science, and she cared about people, and her constant good cheer and caring nature were an inspiration to us all. Unfortunately, I will miss Susan's wake and funeral mass, because I am currently in New Zealand, but my heart is with you. My sincere condolences, Jack Greenblatt

Dear Andy, Miranda and Madeleine, I recall Susan with much fondness and gratitude. She was very generous with her knowledge, and was a huge help to me when I started as a graduate student. I also remember the joy in her voice when she spoke of her family and her daughters. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Angela (from the Greenblatt lab)
