Uncle Ron was the kindest, gentlest man I ever knew. Regardless of his own situation or circumstances he put his feelings aside and was able to demonstrate true grace under pressure. I remember playing golf with Uncle Ron and my dad. Uncle Ron had hit his ball so well that it had caught up to the group ahead. The other player then hit Ron's ball mistaking it for his own. Ron walked up to the next group and apologized for having hit through the other group. It was only then that the other player realized that he had hit Ron's ball and not his own. Ron then offered the other player a new ball. At which point the other player apologized. I asked my dad why Uncle Ron had been so polite to someone who had been so inconsiderate to him. My dad said he had always been that way. He said it takes a truly strong man to be kind and polite under trying circumstances. That has stuck with me 40 years later. I guess that's why everyone loved him so much. I'll truly miss him! Of all the relatives Charly met for the first time at my mom's house Uncle Ron left the most lasting first impression. I'm sorry we won't be able to make it to the funeral, I would have liked to be there for him the way he was there for so many others, including my mom after my dad died. He was one of the first to offer help. I can only hope that people will think as well of me when I die. At least now my dad can play some more golf with his favourite golfing partner. My dad always commented on how much he looked forward to playing golf with Ron. He really enjoyed it! I think Ron did too.
