Obituary of Mortimer Lyon

LYON, Mortimer, FRI, SLY,CRA October 27, 1926 - August 1, 2014 2nd Lieutenant Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Reserve, Ret'd. Vice President Johnston and Daniel Real Estate, Toronto ON, Ret'd Life Member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association Mort was the proud son of the late Dr. S. Mortimer Lyon and Florence Ada Lyon (nee Millichamp). He was the loving husband for 63 years of the late E. Joan Lyon (nee Southam). Father of Mary Virginia (Ginny) Lyon and her daughter Samantha (Sam) Nye, who's help and love for such a long period of time meant so much to both Joan and Mort. Father also of David Mortimer Lyon, daughter-in-law Patrice Lyon (nee Drew), their five children and three grandchildren, Christopher Lyon (Arran Tyre) and their daughter Violet Lyon; Lyndsay Lyon (Darren Fung) and their sons Atticus and Quinn; Shannon, Sarah and Peter Lyon. Step-grandfather to Matthew and Alex Nye. Mort was also predeceased by his two sisters, Ruth Martin, Joyce Mary (Timmie) Osler/Southam, and two brothers, Hugh M. Lyon, Peter H. Lyon and by many Lyon, Southam and Millichamp family members. Mort was in the wholesale textile business for nearly twenty years traveling mostly in Southwestern Ontario. About 1963, he entered the real estate field and earned his salesmen licence, brokers licence and appraisers licence, from courses at York, Ryerson, U of T , and others. Mort enjoyed collecting family histories, New Orleans jazz, Big Band music and saw, personally talked to, knew, and danced to many of the famous orchestras. Laterally, he moved to Big Bay Point and then to Tollendale Retirement Village, where he met so many wonderful people and had much help from his caregiver Janice Zaba. A Memorial service will be held in CHURCH OF ST. TIMOTHY (ANGLICAN), 100 Old Orchard Grove on Wednesday, August 13 at 2 p.m. As a tribute to Dad, please visit a neighbour and fix something for them or just have a nice chat with them.
