My Aunt was born and raised in Sofia Bulgaria in 1912. Veneta was the only sister between 4 brothers until her father remarried and another sister was born. She helped care for them after the death of their mother Early in life she developed a hard work ethic designing and making clothes.
Being the beautiful woman that she was, she captivated the heart of the late Jim (Demiter) Elieff in the early 1950's who went to Sofia and chose to wait for his bride for a full year before he could bring her to Canada.
Together in Toronto, they established a home and built multiple successful businesses. Veneta was very active in her community and was appreciated and loved by many.
Around 1965 I came over at the age of 16 to live with Venta as my guardian and sponsor. I spent 4 years living with her and her late husband (Jim) until I got married in 1969.
We had two boys of our own, and Veneta spent a lot of time with us during birthdays, holidays and all special events, the children affectionately called her "Maminka". Later my boys had children of their own and those boys knew her as "Grandma"...
Veneta has been a special part of our family for the last 49 years, she will be missed and remembered in our hearts forever.
