Keith Coleman Hendrick
Keith Hendrick passed away peacefully on June 24, 2014 in his 89th year. He was with his beloved
wife Mary Frances and family at his side at North York General Hospital Loving husband of Mary Frances for
63 years. Proud father of Peter, Mark and Gloria (Kay), Susan and Geoff (Heseltine) and Jane and Todd
(Conrad). Loving grandfather to Laura, Alison, Cara and Brian Hendrick, Michael, Tory and Christie
Heseltine and Taryn Conrad Predeceased by his brother, Dr. E Bruce Hendrick.
Keith was born in Toronto and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1947 with a degree in
Mechanical Engineering. He was a Rhodes Scholar attending Oxford University where he earned a
Master's Degree in Engineering in 1948 and a Master's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics
in 1950. He enjoyed a successful and lifelong career at Noranda and retired in 1992 as President of
Noranda Minerals. In 1990 he was named Copper Man of the Year. He served on many corporate boards
including Franklin Templeton, Labatt's Breweries and Northgate Minerals. An active volunteer, Keith
was a member of the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and served as President of the Art
Gallery of Ontario.
Keith had an incredible love of life He loved sports and excelled at all he participated in. He was an avid skier,
tennis player, swimmer and windsurfer. He was passionate about golf and played the game for many
years as a member of the Toronto Golf Club. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed many summers at his wilderness cottage on Logan Lake where he rowed and windsurfed into his eighties. He had a great appreciation for the arts and enjoyed theatre, opera, ballet, the symphony and art exhibitions.
Keith was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a highly ethical and honourable
man and a true gentleman. He had a great sense of humour and fun and was always game for any adventure
He was an eternal optimist and an inspiration to his family and friends He was generous, kind, thoughtful
and loving. He touched many people in his life and will be missed by all.
Thanks to the staff at Sunrise at Thorne Mill and Dr. Shelley Albert and staff at North York General
Hospital for the care in the later stages of his life. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Society.
There will be a visitation at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto on Wednesday, July 2nd from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, July 3rd at Rosedale United Church, 159 Roxborough Drive, Toronto at 11:00 a.m.
