Every time I cast my eye on the bamboo stalk from the Memorial ceremony of Liz at Yee Hong, displayed in my living room, it brings back memories of the passion and commitment of Liz to the Chinese elderly cause. What a generous and compassionate individual she was. Tony, take very good care of yourself as Liz would have wished. Peggy

Dear Mr. Comper, I would like to express the condolences of my wife Karyn and myself on the passing of your beloved wife, Elizabeth. We had the privilege of meeting both of you several years ago when you were both in Winnipeg, and were the guest speakers at a Combined Jewish Appeal evening. As active members of both our Jewish and General Communities, it was most gratifying to meet both of you and listen to your wonderfully enlightened approach to anti-Semitism in the Canadian population. There is no question that both of you are making a difference, and we shall always be indebted to Mrs. Comper for her commitment to make the World a better place. Dear Tony, Elizabeth was a champion. I first realized that 25 years ago when I met her during the campaign to build that first Yee Hong Centre. It would not have happened without her compassion, commitment and leadership. I saw those qualities in action many times since, and sometimes I was lucky enough to work with her. At other times she touched my life less directly: when my wife and I took our seats at Taragon, strolled though the AGO or heard musicians from the Royal Conservatory. She appealed to all our better angels and made this city a better place. My deepest sympathy and condolences. Digby

I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Comper's passing. Along with her husband Tony, she was a "Righteous Gentile" who was shocked to see anti-Semitism, a pernicious hatred, reappear in our time, and how made it her business to do something about it.

Dear Tony: Our deepest sympathies - words cannot express. Mary and Tim had told us she was not well, but we're never prepared, are we? We were privileged to have known Liz for almost as long as you! What a warm wonderful person with such a big heart. And of course, we ended up being neighbours to her folks when we moved out here to rural Milton. One of the highlights of "The Compleat Works" musical career was the bunfight Liz planned for your big holiday bash some years ago! Such fun. We trust that those and a million more memories will help sustain you in the coming times. We are so sorry that we have a family reunion in British Columbia in the week of July 8 that has been a year in the planning, so unfortunately we will be unable to attend Liz's Celebration. Please know that we will be thinking of you at that time. Love, Sandra and Jim
