Obituary of Yun-Chong Pan

PAN, Yun-Chong After living with ALS for 13 years, Yun-Chong Pan passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Heng Ching, his three children Nadia, Nina and Tom, their spouses Paul, Andrew and Sue, and grandchildren James, Sarah and Oscar. Yun-Chong Pan was born on February 20th, 1935 in Taipei, Taiwan. After marrying Heng Ching Lin in 1961, Y.C. came to Toronto for graduate studies. He joined CIDA in 1976, and spent his life travelling around the world with his family as he worked for CIDA as a career diplomat. While he worked and lived in Sri Lanka, India, China, Poland and Ukraine, he learned to read, write and speak Hindi, Urdu, Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian, making friends and impacting lives all over the world. He was committed to development in Asia and Eastern Europe. Y.C. was deeply loved by his family and held in high esteem by friends and colleagues. He will be missed. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. In memorium donations to the ALS Society of Ontario, 402 - 3100 Steeles Avenue East, Markham L3R 8T3 would be welcome.
