To my Auntie Nudge,
You and Uncle Don have been such a huge part of my life ever since I waa born You both became friends with my parents Roy and Bet Allen back in 1949 or 1950 - when you all lived in south London, England. I think all 4 of you emigrated to Canada in the late 1950s. Due to circumstances, my parents came back to England a few years later - but you and Uncle Don stayed.
However, although our families were 3000 miles apart - the friendship between them stayed strong and true. Never a year went by without us meeting up. I have so many fond memories of those times Auntie Nudge :
We would normally meet up in England to go to some boring old historical castle-type holiday. Uncle Don and my Mum Bet would spend hours in there, while us kids were bored silly. You Auntie Nudge understood, and would rush all us kids through the castle and into the refreshment room - where you would get us ice creams and cakes!- closely followed by my Dad!
I will never forget the time in 1986 when I came to stay with you in Canada. I was 19 years old and pretty naive. Rob took me out with his friends and I got SO drunk! When we got back to your house - Rob made me drink milk, as he said it was good for a hangover. Bad move! I was sick everywhere. Next day I felt so ashamed and embarrassed - but you were so nice and understanding - you never judged me or made me feel bad. And when I (a bridesmaid at Laura's wedding the next year) managed to lose my shoes and threaten to spoil all the wedding photos without shoes - you never got cross or seemed ruffled. Luckily, someone found them just in time!
Auntie Nudge - you have been such an important part of my life. I have always loved the times we spent together - You had such a great sense of humour! I always felt that I could talk to you confidentially too, as you were so understanding.
I will always remember the rhyme you told me when I was young about "Thor the thunder god". It made me laugh back then and it still does today.
Auntie Nudge - you are probably the strongest, bravest and most understanding person I know.
I love you very much,
Lizzie xxxx
