Obituary of Elisabeth Blachford

BLACHFORD, ElisabethElisabeth Blachford passed away peacefully in Toronto on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the age of 87. Beloved wife for over 30 years of the late Arthur Durham Blachford; stepmother to Gregg Blachford (David), Barb Mason (Vaughn) and Jennifer Campbell (Joey); Oma to Kyle, Chris, Benjamin, Danny, Michael and Sarah; step aunt to Jan Fothergill/Simone (Phil) and Louise. Long time friends with Traudy Treidl, Hertha Hamann and Fernanda Simoes.Elisabeth Kreitmeier was born in 1927 in Vienna, Austria where she had a happy and successful career with the Vienna Opera as a ballerina. She immigrated to Canada in 1950 and worked hard to build a successful life in Hamilton and Markham with her first husband, Eric Embacher, who died in 1969. After fighting cancer herself, she worked for 17 years as a volunteer with the Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital. We would like to thank the staff of the Donway Place Retirement Home and the personal support workers of Revera Home Health for the exceptional care and attention they gave to Elisabeth. A Memorial Service will take place at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue),on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. Her ashes will be buried, as according to her wishes, in the family plots of Arthur in Park Lawn Cemetery in Toronto and Eric in Saalfelden, Austria. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elisabeth's memory to the Odette Cancer Centre Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON. M4N 3M5.
