I was late seeing the notice of Ed's passing, unfortunately. As Canada Life Medical Director for many years (still there!)it was my pleasure to look after Ed for various maladies including a nasty bite from his dog! One time he told me that he never took a sick day in his long career at Canada Life. He was a wonderful gentleman of the 'old school' and it was an honour to have known him. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Doug (Dr. Doug Lewis)

Dear Crawford Family, My wife, Sheila, and I extend our deepest condolences to you at the death of your dear father, father-in-law and grandfather. Edward Crawford was the last of the great chief executives of the independent Canada Life. He loved the company, its policy owners and its employees. I was fortunate to observe this first hand after he became the chairman of the board of Canada Life's New York subsidiary which I headed. At every board meeting. he made sure to draw comments from every member. His goal was full participation and he succeeded. When I considered retiring early I called Ed. He invited me to come to Toronto to visit with him. He offered to meet me outside of the company's HQ so no one else would have to know I was in Toronto. I did not accept that offer because I was meeting with the top person. His advice to me was to do whatever I felt was best for me and my family. I accepted his counsel and became a pensioner at age 62. I was privileged to have a telephone friendship for many years with Ed after we both left active roles in the company. In every conversation we had, after asking for my wife, me and our family, he wanted to know about Canada Life people. That was typical of this good man. Barbara and Ed Crawford were wonderful people, caring, interested and kind. They were great role models as parents, loving partners, and industry leaders. I salute a very fine man at his passing. I shall miss him but he is in a better place. God bless the souls of Barbara and Ed Crawford and may he give comfort and peace to Doug, Luci, Andrew, Rob, Charlene and all who knew and loved this extraordinary couple. Most respectfully, Al Alfred F. Kelly, Sr. 775 Scarsdale Rd. #4 Tuckahoe, New York 10707 U.S.A.

Ed and I saw each other frequently during our business carees -Ed running Cda Life and me running Sears. We both sat on the CIBC Board, and played golf together at Toronto Golf Club. Ed was always the perfect gentleman, quick to enjoy a joke, and equally quick to help a friend. He will be missed
