Obituary of Jozef Muszynski

MUSZYNSKI, Jozef Jozef Muszynski was born in Lodz, Poland on October 21, 1916 and passed away at the Veterans Centre of Sunnybrook Hospital on April 12, 2014, surrounded until the end by his children and his grandchildren who adored him. A much-decorated soldier on the ground for the entire seven years of WWII. Released from a prisoner-of-war camp in Uzbekistan, he joined the Polish contingent of the British Army in Pahlevi, Iran, in 1941. He fought in the Battle of Monte Casino for which he was twice decorated. Jozef lived his life for his children. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years Mary Louisa Muszynski (nee Kushner). His five children: Maria, Anna (Han Kwan d. 2000), Linda (David Compton), David (Janet Oja) and Janina (Keith St. Jean). In his later years, Jozef blossomed in the presence of his grandchildren, who were to him a miraculous testament to his chosen life in Canada: Alexandra, Benjamin, Nikki, Meghan, Abbey and Ethan. Jozef also leaves four great grandchildren: Haileigh, Rebekah, William and Carter. Jozef devoted his life to his family, and his greatest joy was to be surrounded by those he loved. Gratitude would have coloured his last days, had he been aware that the children and the grandchildren he loved so much were with him until the end. The staff of Sunnybrook Veterans Wing provided exceptional care especially in the last five days of Jozef's life: the care Jozef received from these individuals was exemplary. The family would like to make special mention of his personal caregivers Ana and Maria Muya who loved and tended to Jozef as one of their own. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Wednesday, April, 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday April 17th at 1:00 p.m. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Veterans Wing, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4N 3M5. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
