Obituary of Joan Watson
Joan Ormsby Watson (nee Vokes)
December 2, 1920 - April 13, 2014
Joan passed away peacefully at Toronto Grace Hospital in her 94th year. Daughter of the late Oliver Watson Vokes and Violet Beatrice Ormsby Vokes and stepdaughter of the late Dorothy Isobel Vokes. Predeceased by her husband Melvin Thomas Watson and brother Miles Vokes. Survived by her sister Nancy Vokes MacLennan (Angus), of Keswick, children Thomas of San Diego, CA, Donald (Barbara) of Hamilton and Joan Young (Terry) of Richmond Hill. Also survived by her cherished grandchildren Lindsay, Christopher and Amy, as well as her nieces, nephews and their offspring. Joan's strong spirituality saw her through decades of struggle with several cancers. A gifted graduate of The Ontario College of Art in 1940, she exhibited a talent for dress design. Her career as a highly sought after bride's counselor for The Robert Simpson Co. spanned many years. She was a very loving and kind human being who shared her wonderful sense of humor so freely. Her many years as a cottager on Snake Island, Lake Simcoe from 1935 - 1988 brought her great joy and, with a large circle of neighbouring friends, there was always cause for good times. Following cremation by Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, a private family gathering will be held in June to honor Joan's life. If desired, memorial donations may be made to her favorite charity, The Toronto Humane Society, (www.torontohumanesociety.com/tribute.htm) or alternately, The Ontario SPCA (www.ontariospca.ca).
