Obituary of Martin Craig Ham
HAM, Martin (Marty) Craig
Marty passed away peacefully at Bridgepoint Health Centre, Toronto, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 with Gail, his cherished partner of 16 years, by his side. Marty was born in Toronto on April 5, 1947 to his loving mum Phyllis (nee Taylor) and Wilfrid John Ham (d. 1975). Father of Martin Craig Ham Jr. and Clayton Wilmot Ham. He also leaves behind his brother Lawrence T. (Larry), his sister Wendy J., and his brother Wilfred John Jr. (John), and their extended families. He is predeceased by his sister Catherine L. (Cathy), (d. 1996). Marty retired in 2008 after 27 years of service with the TTC. He spent 5 months wintering in Florida (to the envy of most of our friends) for the past five years but just couldn't make it this year due to illness. He has many long-time, and some more recent, friends here in Toronto, together with friends in Florida who were all shocked to hear of his passing. He will be sadly missed but he wanted you to celebrate his life and not mourn. He loved to party and have fun, had a great sense of humor, was known to all for speaking his mind, loved a good debate, and was stubborn to say the least. But there was the other side of Marty. He loved to spend hours reading a good book, even poetry (go figure), loved listening to jazz and even classical music, was an avid photographer, and also loved long walks in solitude in Mount Pleasant Cemetery and on the beach in Florida. He had a very loving and sensitive side to him that many never got to see. He said he had a great life with no regrets as to how he lived it. So, let us celebrate Marty's life at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Friday, April 11, 2014 with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. A private cremation will be held on Saturday April 12, 2014. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
