Obituary of Ian Angus Blanchard Mackenzie
MACKENZIE, Ian Angus Blanchard
July 23, 1917 - January 29, 2014
Died at The Donway Place, Don Mills in his sleep in the early morning of Wednesday, January 29, at the age of 96. Survived by his spouse of 70 years, Helen (nee Grant); his sons Hugh (Cathy Lace) and Hector (Kathy Giles); and his grandchildren Alyssa, Owen, Anna, Sarah and Gwyneth. Graduate of UTS, Kings College, Dalhousie University, Osgoode Hall. A lifelong member of, and dedicated volunteer for, the Presbyterian Church, including many years as Treasurer of St. Mark's Church. For many seasons he was a hockey coach in the Don Mills Civitan hockey league. Through his grandfather, Angus Sinclair, who was one of Canada's railway pioneers as a construction contractor, he developed a passionate interest in trains, which he never outgrew. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, whose every turn in life he followed avidly; the church; kids' hockey; Nova Scotia; Canadian and military history; and trains of all sizes, shapes and types, particularly those powered by steam. His family suspected he chose driving routes to maximize the number of level crossings encountered. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends and associates as a quiet and gentle man. A memorial service will be held in ST. MARKS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1 Greenland Road (at The Donway East) on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Ian to the Presbyterian World Service and Development or to the charity of your choice.
