My memory of Dean begins at Bishop's University in 1969 and our daunting trips across the border to stay with family in Vermont and Boston. Given Dean's proclivity to argue with authority, it was often challenging to get into the US and back to Canada. His mother's warm welcome and the visits to Toronto were more relaxing. Dean loved city life and relished ethnic cuisine. He was at his best behavior dining at a kosher deli in Brookline or Indian vegetarian in San Diego. I will always remember the long walks and visit in California, his beaming smile, and infectious laugh.
