Proud to have served this most brilliant, distinguished, and compassionate Dean in an administrative capacity. Dr. Holmes' light shines bright in the thousands of lives he compassionately cared about, educated and inspired. My deep condolences to the Holmes family.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Brian Holmes in his 94th year. He was an excellent Dean at the University of Toronto and provided wonderful leadership in Oman. Above all, he was a gentleman and exceptionally fine person and professor. With my most sincere condolences, Dr. John Dirks

Brian and I shared the Holmes family genealogy over some time. Both my cousin in Perth, Australia and myself have visited Three Castles in Kilkenny. I am continuing to honour the life work of Brian as long as I am able - the "Fairey-Gillanders-Holmes Tree" on Ancestry.com has over 8,200 entries now. The "Green Book" was the source of much of this work and I will continue it. [My Great Great Grandfather on my Grandmother's side was William Holmes, pioneer of Burnaby, B.C.] Please accept the deepest condolences of all of us who live on in Brian's legacy and honour the enormous work and interest he had in a pioneering family. Be assured we will honour him by trying to continue his work and keep the Holmes story updated and alive. Brian knew I am a former Radiation Oncologist from Vancouver, and now retired in Kelowna, B.C. I shall miss him and continue in his inspiration. Randall Fairey 877 Westpoint Drive, Kelowna, B.C. On my personal behalf as Brian's former family doctor but also as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the entire family. I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Holmes and sharing so many of his memories about health care, medical education and his travels. It was an honour and a privilege. As his family physician I felt equally honoured to be a caregiver for him, Barbara and Richard. All my thoughts and prayers go to the family and his loved ones. To Dr. Brian Holmes family and friends, on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, I send our most sincere sympathy. We are deeply indebted to Dr. Holmes for his many years of outstanding leadership and service to our Faculty during his time as Professor and Dean of Medicine. His kind support and encouragement to the Deans of Medicine who followed were highly valued. The Faculty will cherish his memory for many generations.
