Joan: I will truly miss George. As you know, he took a real interest in my legal career over 30 years ago, mentored me, & inspired my interest in employment law.

Dear Joan, I was extremely saddened to read of George's death in the Globe and I do apologize for sending this note via e-mail but Bill and I are still in New Zealand and are regrettably unable to attend the funeral. However I wanted to get this note to you right away. George was a great lawyer and judge and a fine mentor and friend to me. Our family also had great admiration and appreciation for his wonderful book on Dad, a copy of which is before me even here. However what I will always remember best is how wonderful George was to Dad when he was ill - his many visits and in particular his amazing ability to stimulate Dad and his failing memory and to have serious discussions with him. If I came to visit after George had been there Dad was happy and at his best. It was an uncanny talent and I will always love George for the time and care he took. Bill and I are thinking of you Joan and send you all our sympathies at this time of loss. Much love Dale

My thoughts are with the entire family in your loss of one special man. I was Mr. Finlayson's secretary at McCarthy's prior to his elevation to the Bench and I know just how much of a loving and supportive family man he was. I thoroughly enjoyed reading his book "John J. Robinette - Peerless Mentor". Mr. Finlayson was highly regarded by all in his profession and he will be sadly missed. He certainly had a wonderful career, family and....most of all compassion. All of your memories will be ones to cherish forever.

To Joan and Family.. I wish to extend my sincere sympathy on the passing of George...loving husband, father and grandfather. It has been many years since we last saw each other, and sadly it was at the wake of another family member. As for memories, well, Joan do you remember the summer of 1971? Mexico? silver tea service?....however/whatever did you tell him? I remember George as a flamboyant character...a law unto himself. I don't think I was wrong in that, but then I was young and impressionable at that age. With much love, Nancy

Dear Joan and all the Finlayson Family, Hello, I am Doug Campbell, Gerry’s son, and I was deeply saddened when I received the news of Georges’ passing. Our lives had touched on several key times in my life. My mother, Shirl, often talked about my early years and you family’s friendship. My Dad, Gerald Campbell, always talked of how good of a friend he had in George. He always told me of the times of when they got together and how much my Dad enjoyed his company. I remember the things George did for my Dad when my Dad was very sick and I am thankful for George, when he was the Executor of my Dad’s Estate, aside from the legalities, George would always take a few moments on each of my visits just to talk about my Dad with me. For that I will always be grateful. George will always be in my fondest memories. My condolences to you and your family. Doug Campbell

Hi Blair and Kathy: We are very sorry to hear of George's passing. I always think of him as one of the "founders" of our little cottage group, and it just won't be the same without him. He was a person of integrity and a model for us all. All our best to Joan, Sheelagh, and both of you. Love Mike and Carol Martino
