I am so sorry that I didn't hear of Michael's passing until recently. However living in Portugal, the news travels slowly.,
He was such a wonderful member of our law school class.
He lived in a house with a friend of mine in undergraduate, and accordingly I saw him often even before law school.
He died well before his time. So very sorry for your very sad loss.

Dear Michael, May you forever rest in peace. I am shocked and greatly saddened to hear of your passing away. A man as wonderful, loving and warm-hearted as you and with your tremendous sense of integrity should live to be 100. The world is a lesser place without you in it. My blessings go to Christopher who you loved with all your heart. You have given him a wonderful start in life. May he take after his father and carry on the Birley legacy. You will always be remembered in my heart Michael.

He and I started practice together at the same f,irm in in 1977. We have been friends since and I never knew a more honest decent and hard working man. He loved to speak of his son who he adored. Michael did not deserve the problems that beset him. I will miss him.

Michael has been a part of our lives for over 40 years. He met my sister, Wendy in university and was the love of her life. They lead a charmed existence in Toronto as two young professionals. They made a wonderful home where they had fun with Michaels' parents, a wonderful circle of friends from school and a whole community in the sailing world. They seemed to have to all, with perhaps the exception of a child. With Wendy's sudden passing in 1993 he continued to be a part of our family and supported us through the loss of our parents and celebrated the marriage of our first child and the birth of our first grandchild. Thank you to Deb, his secretary of thirty years for informing us of his passing. It saddens us that his life has ended far too soon and we will miss him in our lives. We loved him for the humour and love he shared with Wendy and we hope that he has found a place of peace. Our thoughts are with Christopher, who he adored.

Michael was a best friend and constant companion in high school at North Toronto. My memories of him are of a very special human being... kind, thoughtful, warm and funny. It has been many years since seeing him after moving out west. I was so hoping to see him and to re-connect after many lost years at a reunion this spring, but it is not to be. My sincerest condolences to all the family and friends. He was a wonderful person. My thoughts are with you.

Michael and I, as Senior Investigator, worked together on many investigative matters while he was counsel at the Ontario College of Pharmacists until my departure in 2003. Many of those cases seem like only having occurred yesterday in memory. Learning was always a 2-way street with Michael, and we both benefited greatly from having had the pleasure to work together. He placed immense pride in keeping pharmacy professional, and was part of a "rare breed" that is largely absent these days. To the family: may you find solace and comfort in those around you at this difficult time. My sincere condolences to you.

During this difficult time I would like to extend my most heartfelt condolences. I knew Michael in our university-age years, double dating , hanging out and going to many parties , loving Mama Cass songs and following from a distance our careers - he in law and me as a stockbroker. I remember Wendy and I believe she taught elementary school at St Clements and I was at her funeral which I believe was at St Clement's Anglican church. I was so glad that he remarried and saw him from time to time at the RCYC where we were both members. I never met Christopher but I hope that he is doing well and want to say how lucky he is to have had a wonderful role model like his dad . My sincere sympathies to his wife and son.
