Audrey Stella Russell Lawer nee Robbins S.R.N. Lt. (N/S) Ret. Peacefully at Cardinal Ambrosic Houses of Providence on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, beloved wife of John V. Lawer, loving mother of Lorraine Cane (Michael), proud grandmother of Stephen, Simon and Melanie (John Tory), delighted great-grandmother of Jack. Predeceased by her parents Ralph Uriel Robbins and Stella Russell Robbins, infant twin brother Arthur, sister Joan Kley, brother-in-law Werner Kley and brother Geoffrey Robbins. Survived by her sister-in-law Betty Robbins, nephews Michael Robbins (Sheila), Keith Robbins (Colleen), Kenneth Robbins (Kiersten) and Alan Robbins (Theresa), as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces. Audrey was born in Lahore, British India, graduated in nursing at the Middlesex Hospital, London, England, and served with Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service during the Second World War in England and India. While resident in New Zealand, she served with the New Zealand surgical team during the war in Vietnam. A resident of Toronto since 1968, she served as Secretary of the Toronto Branch, and subsequently as National Secretary of the English-Speaking Union of Canada. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, November 16. Funeral service will be held in THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF THE TRANSFIGURATION, 111 Manor Road East, Toronto at 11 o'clock on Monday, November 17. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
