Sue Corlett

Obituary of Sue Corlett

CORLETT, Dr. Susan Gail Sept. 17, 1942 - Aug. 23, 2008 With great sadness we bid farewell to Sue, also known as Suz and Coral. Greatly missed by her sister Trish Denhoed of Whitby, who many will know as Pat Corlett, and her nephew Paul Denhoed (Maki Yamashita) in Tokyo, Japan. Sue was a well known researcher and consultant in health care and health and government policy. Two of her favourite jobs were analysing the government's response to the big ice storm in Ontario in 1998, and the Stand on Your Feet project. She was a devoted member of the Board of the Anne Johnston Health Station in Toronto. She was one of a small group of crusaders that finally convinced Ontario to cover the cost of Herceptin. What a blessing for so many people. She really did change the world. Her needlepoint canvases will live on in many homes. They are as magnificent as she was. Special thanks to her dedicated circle of friends, neighbours and colleagues, including Pete and Jake, Jeanette MacDonald, Ann Rice, Jutka Tomlinson and the ever present "Leaside Ladies." Also special thanks to all her caregivers at Princess Margaret and Kate Hanneman at Toronto General Hospital, and especially to Val Ali, RN, and Dr. Robert Buckman for their exceptional bond with Sue. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME- A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, on Wednesday, August 27 from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and on Thursday, August 28 from 7-9 p.m. A grand celebration of Sue's life will be held at a later date; details to follow. Donations to the Sue Corlett Fund at the Toronto Community Foundation are welcome. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com. "Friends are the angels who lift us up to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."
