Obituary of Donald Lingeman

LINGEMAN, Donald Joseph, B.Sc. Pharmacy 1929-2008 Died peacefully at home on July 28th, 2008, after a long five year battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Varley) with whom he shared 50 years. Dearest father of Donna-Marie Lingeman (Peter Whyte), Joanne Lingeman (deceased), Paul Lingeman (Paula), Mary Penny (Doug). Adored Grandpa and hero of Brian, Joanne, Roslyn, Gordon and Charlie. Brother of Norm Lingeman (Terry), Jack Lingeman (Vera). Brother-in-law of Jack (deceased), Lorraine Varley, Eileen Larmer (Gerry), William Varley (deceased) and Fr. Neil Varley (deceased) and many special nieces and nephews. Don was born in Toronto in April 1929, youngest son of Norman and Pearl (nee Beemer) Lingeman. Attended St. Mike's High School, followed by four years of Pharmacy at University of Toronto, graduating in 1954. He owned and operated Lingeman's Pharmacy in the west end of Toronto for 35 years. He loved his family, his grandchildren, his 5T4 annual reunions, jazz, skiing, tennis, fishing and travelling with Margaret and his close friends. After retirement he spent many years doing volunteer work with the Cancer Society as a driver, the MS, St. Vincent de Paul and Arthritis Societies. Faced with many health issues the last number of years, after a severe stroke in 1990, Don always remained positive and upbeat, always replying "I'm fine, I'm fine." We never stopped learning or being inspired by his strength and positive attitude. Sincere thank you's to the wonderful, caring and kind doctors, nurses and technicians at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Odette Cancer Centre. We are grateful for the care and compassionate services of Dr. Russell Goldman of Temmy Latner Centre, Mount Sinai. Our love and affection go out to Lynn, Natalie and the wonderful staff and residents at Claremont Retirement Home. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 31st.
